kintaro is an award-winning artist, multi-instrumentalist, and performer based in Toronto, Canada. He released his solo debut To Death, with Love in 2021; an homage to his late father. The EP was written, performed, and produced alone during the pandemic, and documents his sojourn with death, love and loss. Musically he showcases a broad sonic spectrum, drawing from a palette of jazz inspired harmonies, lofi-folk instrumentation, and the modern sounds of the digital age. The project garnered recognition from numerous Canadian media outlets including CBC, Indie88 and SHARP Magazine. Currently he is working on his sophomore record, set to be released in 2024. 

As a collaborator kintaro has written, produced, and performed with many notable artists including Birds of Bellwoods, Jesse Gold, River Tiber, Cynthia Tauro, Brendan Canning, and Midnight Vesta. He has worked on a large catalogue of material, amassing over 20 million plays on streaming services worldwide. As a performer he has played iconic stages such as Osheaga, Festival D’Ete du Quebec, Boots and Hearts, Jasper Folk Music Festival, Hillside Festival, and Rock the Rink; a cross-country arena tour. Alongside these projects he has composed soundtracks for film and television, including “The Highway”, “Game Time” and “The Briefcase”. 

kintaro’s influences span a vast musical landscape— growing up in a musical household he was immersed in folk, jazz, and classical. He continued to explore a variety of genres, and studied piano, guitar and bass. He honed his musical skills playing in bands, and studying at several musical institutes including Claude Watson School for the Arts, Humber College Community Music School. In 2013 kintaro graduated with distinction from McGill University’s Schulich School of Music with an Honours Bachelor of Music in Jazz Bass Performance. Though kintaro is rooted in many familiar genres, he enjoys exploring the spaces found in between; fusing driving rhythmic elements, intricate harmonic structures and weaving vocal melodies.
